"Fish" is a stone sculpture crafted from Serpentine by Zimbabwean artist Godfrey Kututwa It was part of a collection brought to the UK in 1993 by Edward Hildyard and featured in the Five Ways Brighton Festival Open Houses exhibition at his home in Fiveways, Brighton.
Born in 1967 in Nyanga, Kututwa was trained by first-generation sculptor Claud Nyanhongo. His works quickly gained recognition, earning him international exhibitions and invitations to lead seminars in Europe.
Although we don't have a provenance document for this fish-shaped piece, it is clearly identifiable by the artist's signature and its strong resemblance to his other works.
