Early Life and Artistic Beginnings

Born in Chiredzi and now based in Harare, Zimbabwe, Owen Mlungisi discovered his passion for art early in life. After completing his O'Levels at Hippo High School in 2002, he began his journey into stone sculpting under the mentorship of his uncle, the renowned sculptor Wisdom Zinyeka. For three years, Owen honed his craft as an assistant, mastering the fundamentals of sculpting. Later, he collaborated closely with his brother, Felix Mlungisi, whose creative insights have been a lasting influence on Owen’s artistic evolution.

Expanding into Functional Art

In 2013, Owen’s creative ambitions led him to explore functional art. Collaborating with international designers, including Fair Trade Designers and Denmark’s House by the Sea, Owen created innovative pieces that seamlessly combined utility and artistry.
