Born on 08 August 1972 in Nyanyadzi, in the Chimanimani District of Zimbabwe, Edmore Chijumani is a self-taught sculptor whose passion for art stems from his desire to send meaningful messages to the world through his creations. Born and raised in the scenic Chimanimani district, Edmore grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of Zimbabwe, which has greatly influenced his artistic journey.
Journey as an Artist
Edmore began carving over 24 years ago, developing his craft independently and refining his skills through practice and dedication. Inspired by his spirit and a deep connection to nature, he specializes in sculpting aquatic creatures, with fish being his most celebrated subject.
His preferred materials include butter jade, fruit serpentine, and springstone—Zimbabwe’s iconic and durable stones. These vibrant and versatile materials allow him to bring life and energy to his sculptures, which are known for their exquisite detail and emotional depth.
Family and Artistic Legacy
Edmore’s artistic journey is part of a larger family tradition. His brother, Morgan Chijumani, is also a sculptor, and the two share a mutual commitment to showcasing Zimbabwean art on a global platform. Beyond stone carving, Edmore is skilled in weaving, basketry, and carpentry, reflecting his versatility and creative spirit.
