Submission - Stone Sculpture Made of Serpentine Stone | Zimbabwe
Size, Weight & Medium: 31 x 27 x 17cm/15kg-Est./Serpentine Stone
This sculpture was part of a collection brought into the UK in 1993 by Edward Hildyard and showcased during the Five Ways Brighton Festival Open Houses exhibition at his residence in Fiveways, Brighton. We believe the piece may have been purchased from either Vhukutiwa Gallery or Tengenenge Sculpture Village, though we do not have a certificate of authenticity to confirm this.
The artist's signature on the base is unclear and difficult to read, so we are unable to definitively identify the creator. To assist with this, we have included a photograph of the base in the hopes that someone may be able to help decipher it.
For now, we have titled the piece "Submission," as it beautifully captures the pose of a man in a state of surrender, evoking the powerful emotion of relinquishing resistance.
