"Cat" is a stone sculpture crafted from Serpentine by Zimbabwean artist Godfrey Kututwa It was part of a collection brought to the UK in 1993 by Edward Hildyard and featured in the Five Ways Brighton Festival Open Houses exhibition at his home in Fiveways, Brighton.
Born in 1967 in Nyanga, Kututwa was trained by first-generation sculptor Claud Nyanhongo. His works quickly gained recognition, earning him international exhibitions and invitations to lead seminars in Europe.
While we don’t have a provenance document for this cat sculpture, the artist's signature and its striking similarity to his other works make it easily identifiable.
